I read side effects, am terrified to take. But suffering so bad from the actual deppression/anxiety, am at my wits end. Doc said not to panic about side effects. Worried about kidney stones. Afraid of memory loss.
I can understand being concerned about possible side effects. I tend to read them all myself. however, what you want to keep in mind is this: pharmaceutical companies have to print any and all side effects that MAY happen just to cover their rears. Usually these things never occur, but just in case one person out of 500,000 has it happen, they have to say that it COULD, in order to avoid any legal action. The good of the medication usually by FAR outweighs the bad. And, if you find that your medication does cause you some problems, there are several more options for your doctor to try. Try and relax (I know, I've been here, and it's easier said than done), and let the medication do it's job. Many years ago I suffered a clinical depression and it took me trying 5 different meds before the doctor found the right combination for it to work. I am not telling you this to make you anxious, I am saying this so you will understand there are plenty of things that can help you if you need to change for some reason. It is very common to have to go through a trial stage until the right combo is found. No need to worry, AT ALL. Just let the doctor and the medicine do all the work, and you need to just... be still. You have permission to do nothing. (these were the most profound words my counselor ever said to me. She actually verbally gave me permission to do nothing. And, it helped SO much!) Let them do the work, and you relax and let them. Take the pressure off of you.
Hope this helps, and please continue to post. That can do a lot for anxiety also. Plus, we really do care here!
Started taking topamax for depression about a month ago. Has REALLY helped my depression. I'm supposed to be up to 100mg but started having jaw pain so decided to drop back to 75 mg where I was doing great. At 75 mg I didn't have any side effects at all. It has been amazing for me. I can't wipe the smile off my face. Good luck!
