I recently had a procedure and was prescribed Percocet for the pain. I am scared to take it because I have only taken Tylenol 3's/Norflex for pain. Should I take the Percocet?
They are similar to Tylenol 3 as they are in the same family but they are quite a bit stronger than Tylenol #3. They work quite well for pain but they may make you drowsy. Some people, though, feel more energetic or agitated with them and have trouble sleeping if they take them close to bedtime. Be sure to try them at a time when either reaction wont be a problem until you see how you react.
Yes you should if you don't want to be in pain!! I don't understand why you are afraid to take them? Are you afraid of becoming addicted to them? If that is the case, then I can tell you from expirence that taking percocet for a medical procedure, is NOT going to make you an addict! I am a recovering addict, I started using with percocet, BUT... the reason that I became an addict is because I chose to ABUSE the percocet... if you take them as directed for this procedure, and you don't take more than you need or take them because you like the way that they make you feel or take them for longer than you need them, I promise you that you will be ok and will not become an addict.
Try half of a percocet and see if that helps first. Sometimes we have to take opiods for pain, but that does NOT MEAN that you are a drug addict, and neither will you become one!!! Unfortunately, education has gone backwards, whereas they used to say treat all pain, now you are weak if you take anything stronger than aspirin for pain. People heal quicker and permanently when they treat the pain correctly, and quickly.
Feel better soon!
