I just started it yesterday for back and neck pain due to no discs in my neck and degenerative arthritis in my back. I cannot tell that it is working. My question is: Does it take a few days to work or is it a crappy drug that is considered to be a narcotic that really should not be one such as Ultram (Tramadol)? Thanks to anyone that can help.
In my case no, I took Nucynta for 2 years. 50mg 3 times a day. I was a walking Zombie. I slept 75% of the day away along with sleeping all night long. I basically have 2 years of my life that I can't even remember most of it. When I decided that I didn't want to take the medicine anymore, I asked my Doctor for help. He said just stop taking it. Well I went into full withdrawal symptoms. I went back to him for help and basically was told there was nothing he could do. (Pain Management Dr) My Psychiatrist saw what was happening to me and was able to get me into a rehabilitation center for help. I ended up being there for 10 days.
This was 3 years ago. I still have pain every day. But I have my mind, meaning I am not drugged out. I am hear mentally for my grandson and can remember everything about him. I may not be able to physically do all I want to with him but at least I will have all my memories. The problems I have are a bulging disc between L4-L5 that pushes on my sciatic nerve. I have arthritis in my back and my knees. I have carpal tunnel in my wrists from years of computer work. And finally I have Fibromyalgia and I suffer from chronic migraines. Pain for me is a daily battle but now I only take Tramadol and Gabapentin and Topamax and Flexeril and Relpax for migraines. Nothing habit forming. All I can say is do what is best for you. Take care and God Bless!
I was put on 50 MG ER nucynta last year after having a two level lumbar spinal fusion, lumbar disc replacement and laminectomy, it helps with my pain. Originally I was taking it every four hours but now I'm down to about twice a day. My surgeon tried the nucynta because everything else was making me sick, it doesn't completely take away my pain but it makes it manageable. Hope this helps and good luck to you.
Srr1111 is right. It's an opioid for mod to severe pain when nothing else has been effective.
It is not used as a "rescue" med so you are not going to get the fast acting relief.
Perhaps you are expecting to feel some sort of relief?
It is supposed to keep your baseline under control.
I'm not personally familiar with this drug but you probable need a rescue med along with it.
I hope you feel better. I know it gets old after awhile but hang in there.
