Any suggestions .. Am I not getting any relief because it keeps falling off ? I've taped it on.. When it comes loose I put it back on in the same place .
They have to start you out low on them and increase the dose to find what you need, but if its not staying on its not working of course. It has to adhere to you on its own, you can tape around it to keep the edges from being pulled. Where did you put it? There are some places on the body that are better then others. The possibility exists that its the patch itself, some manufacturers are better then others, as far as the adhesive.
Ndtbwu''''''back when i was using these no it does not work if the corner peels up and even worse when it falls off what i found was using the surgical tape by 3m but first i would wash the area and even use alcohol on where i was going to put it.They work great after you get them to stick on but you can't cut or anything to the orig patch try the alcohol and always remember to rotate it you can't continue to use the same spot or you well break out..And if that happens talk to the doctor they used to give me a oral steroid cream to spray on and let dry then the patch would not irritate my skin but first you have to get it to stay on..Don't thow it away or you well run short on your next box..do like i was saying and see how that works if still problems call the pharmacy and see if they have a better answer good luck they well stick.but if it peels up once you get them to stick you want to keep tape handy, but clean the area like i said first worked great for me.
You for sure are not getting pain relief with it falling off. Ask the pharmacist for help in finding a good adhesive tape or another type of patch to put over the fent patch. The one I know of is the tegaderm patch, they are kind of expensive, but you can purchase them on ebay for a lot less. Be sure to clean and dry the area good with alcohol then warm up the patch with your hands before putting it on your skin. I hope this will help. Good luck
What brand of fentanyl patches are you using?I used the Duragesic brand and had similar problems There was a 800 number on the outer box of the fentanyl patches and I called them. I told them the issues I was having and they sent me Johnson & Johnson Bioclusive covers at no cost. They are the best things I have EVER come across when it comes to fentanyl patches. It keeps them on, in place, and dry. I wore the patches for about 5 years and I couldn't have done it without those covers. I'm not sure if all brand do the same but it can't hurt to call and I believe medical supply stores carry the Bioclusive covers. I hope this help you.
Hello Ndtbwu, just joined this med site. I too just started Fentanyl patch. Everyone seems to be on milligrams (mg) whereas i am on micrograms (mcg), and only 12 at that. thursday 5pm I put the 1st one on... I knew there was NO way it was gonna stick. i put first a peice of white medical tape over it, then a regular bandaid. I realize it says not to do so, but i spend $20 PER patch while my income disability is way less than $1000/month, so i was NOT going to lose even one.
i am at 48 hrs right now and NOTHING... Left kidney pain is soooo wretched yet i hesitate to make the drive to Boston where my kidney doc is...
I wish you the best. Jiinx
I have recently been put on the matrix 12 patches. Had awful issues them falling off!! Apparently a lot of people have had this problem. I have been changed to durogesic patches. these are very slightly bigger and I was also given tegaderm clear covers which work SOMETIMES!! However even then if I'm in the shower they can still fall off!! Very frustrating as I can't feel any relief from them yet!! I'm from uk so rules are different?! Good luck xx
I take mine off while showering. Nothing worse than getting water under it. I sweat enough for that. In fact I take it off every 24 hrs clean skin and move it to other side of my body. Same location. Upper side of back or upper outside of arm. I've been using them for 10+ yrs and taking them off for 30 mins a day doesn't hurt anything. I used medical tape on all 4 edges to put back on and "X" the center to keep the medicine from rising to the top of patch and not getting into my skin. Even a brand new one. I put it on and then add the tape on edges and x the center. Some Drs don't like it but some have said "hey whatever works". It works for me.
I have lost soooo many patches due to sweating, as well as not getting it to stick right to begin with. Keep in mind it takes at least 12 hours to reach its best affect and is working best from 12 to 48 hours after being put on. And it will stay in your system about 12-24 hours after it had come off as well. Now, I have tried every single thing i could, and here is what I can say is most effective:
Wait until night time -about two hours before bed. Shave and clean the area. Use alcohol rub if you'd like as well for good measure. Make sure you are relaxed and not sweating, moving much, or fresh from the shower. Try to plan on laying down in a cool spot to watch a movie or read while you put the patch on. So you've cleaned (and maybe shaved) the area- now- put the patch on smoothly with no air bubbles. Hold your hand or fingers on it for a few minutes to let the warmth help it stick to the skin. Then, apply (just as carefully and smoothly) a tegaderm waterproof/sweatproof bandaid. Cvs also has a waterproof bandaid that you can use as it absolutely does not let water in, and it sticks for dayssss. It has the gauze pad, which fits the Fent patch perfectly and helps pick up any sweat around the area. If you can, try to have the outer ends of the patch touching the adhesive outer ends of the bandaid(around the gauze) as then the patch will stick with the super duper-never-coming-off-waterproof- bandaid. Unlike tegaderm this bandaid is also not
See through and therefore you don't have to worry about who is looking at your medications as let's be honest there is a stigma and it sucks. So do this at night, try to keep your leg or chest or arm (wherever you place it) still for a couple hours. By the time you wake up
In the morning, both the patch and the bandaid will have had plenty of time to adhere to the skin- before sweat becomes an issue.
I have had serious problems with this for many months and am VERY lucky my doctor has replaced the ones I've lost to sweat. Do NOT try to reapply one you've already used- it will NOT work. Be honest with your PM doctor about this issue. If you have any more questions please ask as I've gotten this down after much trial and error.
:) good luck!
