As Citalopram and fluoxatine are both SSRI's and Methadone's effects can be enhanced by fluoxatine can you provide a rational for why these drugs would have been prescribed together and any other intereactions. Methadone prescribed due to alcohol withdrawal.
Taking citalopram (Celexa) and fluoxetine (Prozac) together is not safe. There is risk of serotonin syndrome. Also, the methadone interacts with the Celexa and may cause QT interval prolongation and torsades. If the patient experiences any unusual symptoms such as dizziness, irregular heartbeat, palpitations, syncope, nausea or vomiting, please seek medical attention right away.
I don't know what milligrams of each the patient is on, but I would seek the counsel of another doctor. The risks are too great.
