You have a difficult situation. However, the best way to lose weight is to limit your intake of carbohydrates and concentrate on intake of
quality protein (limit red meat consumption and watch out for high
cholesterol in the things that swim in the sea).
As you do not mention your age, I do not know what kind of exercises your doctor has suggested. Some exercise will certainly help. The
easiest is walking and it will accomplish the most over time. You
should not do anything without your physician's endorsement.
1-2 pounds per week is the most you should look to lose. And, please, don't get discouraged if one week, you don't lose any weight.
I am certainly recommending you do not look for a fast weight loss.
Be patient and do things slowly. Every pound you take off this way
will stay off. 35 pounds is NOT a lot of weight, truly!!! If you have
anything you need to talk through, I absolutely recommend a counselor. Sounds like you went through quite a lot. Does not matter what our age, we sometimes need help to get over the rough patches.
