I am a few weeks pregnant and my obgyn has told me I have chlamydia on my cervix. Since the sperm had to pass through the cervix to fertilize the egg, is the fetus in danger of any medical complications. I will be taking the 1 dose of zpack that will curethe chlamydia but since the egg was already fertilized prior to the medications is the baby in any danger?
Yes but only if the infection is not treated with antibiotics.
If chlamydia is untreated the infection may cause infection in the uterus after delivery. In addition, the infant may develop chlamydia-related conjunctivitis (eye infection) and pneumonia.
Zpak has been used safely in many pregnant women to cure the chlamydia infection.
