I have been taking prednisone for almost 20 years and have tried to get off it several times always with bad results. This last time I could barely walk, was unable to get out of a chair (I bought a lift chair) then I told my doctor I needed to go back on the prednisone. He reluctantly agreed. Within 3 days of going back on 20 milligrams all my symptoms faded and were gone within a week. I can function on 15 milligrams but 20 is better. I am 73 years of age and any damage the prednisone may have done is not yet evident. I still do not have osteoporosis just osteopena so in 20 years it has not done major damage. I would rather quality of life than quantity and the prednisone gives me quality.
