... get down to 20 mgs alternate days but am finding it harder now that i am in my late 40's. i take theophylline, ventolin, formoterol, omeprazole, flucticasone inhalers everyday, and do acupuncture regularly. are there any new drugs to help me so i don't have to keep on taking the prednisone in larger doses whenever i have been having flare ups- every 2 months now? has anyone had success with alternative therapies?
I have been on prednisone for over 30 years, since age 16, for severe asthma. I usually am able to?

I think I'd find a new respiratory dr. Theophylline isn't a drug used very often anymore because of the side effects. How often do you have your level checked? No one should need all of that, I'd want another opinion.
Have you tried xolair injections. I have brittle asthma and thanks to xolair I can now cut my prednisolone down to 15mg per day and I have only stoped breathing three times in two years compared to twice a month before. I have been on prednisolone since 1983 when I was three years old. I am now 34. I do still need all my other medication all of which you are on but I was able to reduce my prednisolone
I've been taking grape seed exract for 19 yrs, have totally gotten rid of allergy and sinus issues... I don't have asthma BUT a friend who does, has been taking grape seed ex for over 6 yrs, she has been able to reduce meds...
Do a search of grape seed ex and asthma OR pycnogenol and asthma
Both are powerful antioxidants and work for allergies/sinus/asthma/edema/some cancers and much more...
