... gastro-resistant pills with it. will this effect me and should I start taking the omeprazole NOW (1 week after stopping steroids)?
What are you on the omeprazole for? GERD, occasional heartburn, or has your doctor put you on it for other reasons? I can give you a better answer with that info, but you may want to call your prescribing doctor still.
8\ I'm waking up and having my coffee and I thought your title said you were on 500mg DAILY, haha. I was worried about your adrenal gland in that case and also wondering why such a high dose of methylprednisolone. Was your prescription dispensed in a Medrol pack or similar that tapers you off if you follow it?
There are no drug interactions with methylpred & omeprazole, I'd suggest starting it again ASAP and contacting your doctor, speaking to their nurse and leaving a message with them that will get to your doc, and you'll get a call back, just so you can let them know about the situation. There have been a few times the phone tag got so bad with one of my doctors, I just called about 2 hours after they opened, asked if there were cancellations for my doctor, there were I think 3, took it, and just went and gave my message and talked.
If you end up on more medication than you're used to or it's hard to remember, if you have an Android smartphone (iOS has it, too, I think), I found the greatest medication reminder app after years of hunting (I have to take dextroamphetamine IR 6 times a day, I NEED something to tell me when to take it, and that's on top of several other medications). It's called Medisafe Virtual Pillbox. (There's the ability to add your family's medication schedule, my husband and one of our dogs is in mine since my husband has issues remembering his one medication and, well, dogs don't have opposable thumbs or limbs that reach their scruff to give themselves insulin. ;) Makes my assistance needed. Anyway, it's really helpful, and I'm not kidding that I've been looking for one since I got the first iPhone that came out and none of them did the job. 6-7 years later FINALLY.
Good luck! Update me on what you find out?
Hi. The omeprazole is in case the steroid upsets your stomach. The methylprednisol. Is for whatever inflammation you are treating. As kaismam said, you don't need to worry about the omeprazole. It can be used another time should you receive another dose of the steroid. Just let the doctor know.
I've been taking omeprazole 20mg capsules now for several years for heart burn / acid reflux , I also take 10mg of Prednisone twice a day( which I now see where you changed your med listing), but realize both are similar in the fact that both are steroids, well technically Prednisone is a corticosteroid but it has some of the same affects as Methylprednisolone as it too prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.
It also suppresses the immune system which can be a serious downside of the drug. If taken for an extended period of time.
I can say that I have never had any adverse reactions with taking both Omeprazole and Prednisone.
Although I can say this much , when I forget to take or run out of Omeprazole , within just a few days I can tell I haven't had the medicine, as my frequent heart burn sets in quickly.
I hope this helps, best of luck to you!!
