Hi recently been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease possible ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, I also have an inflamed prostate. I've been taking tramadol for a few months now for the pain from the prostate, but since I was diagnosed with IBD last week they started me on 40mg prednisolone rectal steroid foam, I'm struggling with this as I'm now becoming lethargic & feeling very low & suspect borderline depression according to my family, I'm also quite getting quite anxious & can be short tempered, which is very unlike me as I'm usually very laid back & not one to worry. Is this possible after only a week of taking prednisolone or am I imagining it?
Thanks in advance

What your describing is probably from the steroids. Even though your using a rectal foam the steroids still get absorbed into your system. I have Crohns disease that is in my colon and rectal area. Ive been given the foams as well which didnt work so great. I then had to be given oral steroids Prednisone to get my flare up inflammation under control. After trying many Crohns meds they finally found one that helps and its called Pentasa. Most regular meds dont seem to help problems that are as low as the colon and rectum. Canasa suppositories is another fairly good help.
Also... tramadol seems to make some people act different and seem moody and depressed. I take it daily for my Fibromyalgia pain. I dont have side effects taking it except for sleep problems if I take it past like noon. But I would guess that steroids AND tramadol together are likely the cause most of your symptoms.
Hi, the symptoms you have described all fall in to the category of possible side effects from taking Prednisolone... anxiety, depression (mood changes), fatigue, etc... Tramadol & Prednisolone combined shouldn't be a danger to you. Read the information from the link below:

Maybe contact you doctor to report these side effects and inquire as to how long they may last, or if another/ a different medication can be prescribed?
