... for 20mg 3x per day for the same drug and same patient be considered dangerous? The same Doctor prescribed both.
It's not likely to be prescribed Concerta 54mg three times a day for the mere fact it is extended release. That pill should last a person between 8-12 hours. Here is an example, my daughter takes Concerta (Methylphenidate ER) 27mg every morning at 7:30am, this lasts her until roughly 3-3:30pm, when she gets off the bus she then takes Ritalin (Methylphenidate) 5mg, so she can stay focused long enough to do her homework and that lasts roughly 3 hours if that. I can see a doctor prescribing Concerta like she did my daughter, I have never heard of Concerta being prescribed three times a day, but then again I'm no doctor.
My doctor prescribes me 54mg concerta ( methylphenidate xr ) 3x per day... with the third dose being a as needed .. with my discretion..
Text book they are supposed to last 8-12 hours... reality every medication effects everyone uniquely and very differently.. 54mg concerta is affective for me exactly 5 hours... I can pin point the moment they begin to lose affect and stop working. . At the 5 hour matm My adhd syptoms flood back all at once! Which at times gives me anxiety .. if im oit in public and lose track of time and mis second dose timing .. my adhd comes screaming back with vingance and gives me an anxiety attack until i get away from people for a good 30 min.. it's crazy.. but believe it or not was worse when just trying the all natural approach to it all.. I'm a mother of 4 very active kids.. who all have many sports and multiple activities almost every weekday. After school. . And all day wrestling tournements on saturdays...
My doctor prescribed 54mg methylphenidate xr 3x a day.. and I will use his words.. he said " I fully intend to be awake 15 hours today and be at my best every moment of it! Why is my day any more important than yours.. you deserve to be at your best all day everyday as often as u want." .. he's amazing man and doctor. . The decision didn't come without monitoring.. and daily phone calls and bp readings whIle we worked up to this script... I do not take 3 everyday. . Just when I have to be at kids games, events.. that last till 8 or 9pm.. can't sit very long without it..so to answer your question. Yes ... It's safe for me... but I can't say if it is safe for u.. that's your doctors job to determine what is safe and most effective dose for u.. if your heart feels likes is pounding out of your chest... do NOT take that dose again... cut it back! .. best of luck
