I want to check herbs to lower my BP, especially systolic and have read about powdered hawthorn berry used to make a mix with cinnamon, raw honey and cocoa powder. I had a pacemaker installed in January and have atherosclerosis. My dr put me on Amiodarone. So far the pm and amiodarone seem to be working but I wonder why I feel hot inside if this is a side effect or my BP. The diastolic no is usually good and sonetimes my BP is perfect but I'm wondering why I feel heat inside. Sometimes my systolic is 130-140 and once recently was 170. I prefer natural herbs to drugs.
Many herbal drugs interact with prescription drugs. Amiodarone can intensify many drugs and herbal supplements. It interacts with many drugs. You can check with your pharmacist, who can look it up for you, your doctor or nurse, or check some of the drug interaction sites online.
Your doctor would not have put you on a drug as serious as Amiodarone unless there was a very good reason as it is usually the drug of " last resort " due to it's high efficacy/toxicity. Sadly, it also comes with a fairly long list of interactions and potentially serious side effects.
While " natural" is desirable, it may not be as effective... and when you are dealing with potentially life threatening arrhythmia's you want effective!
You may want to ask your doctor about Coreg, which can lower blood pressure and strengthen the heart.
