I just had complete hip replacement surgery. I have been taking oxycodone 20 mg. for over five years for cronic pain. When I came out of surgery, I was given 10 mg. oxycodone for postoperative pain. We had gone over my pain management with my pain Dr. I was prescribed 30 mg. of same after surgery. When I woke up, I was in major pain, crying and screaming. They put me out again and I woke up in my room still in very much pain and was told I had been given all the pain meds I could have. Still crying and screaming when the physical therapists came in, they did not want to make me walk. I wanted to check my self out because I knew that I had my alloted amount of meds at home to cover my pain. I was not allowed my bag of personal items so I could leave. Some how I recieved enough meds to dull the pain so I could rest a while. My night nurse was going over my meds with pharmacy and was to be fixed next day, but Dr. came in and released me next morning before anything could be done. I was sent home too early because of this and feel like it impeded my healing and put me in much more pain than was necessary.
So sad Im not sure why they give anyone less after surgery. I wish they could go through our pain for one day. I went through same thing norco 10mg to 5 mg until i fractured my pelvis after the doctor removed more bone for fusion tgen he was supposed to which resulted in my fracture it was then he put me back on 10 mg. Worst pain i ever been in and dont wish that pain on any human being or animal. Something needs to be done about these doctors.
I'm curious how you are doing.
Do you know that the mecal care you got would have a medical malpractice lawyer drooling?
You not only had major surgery but was put into withdrawal ! Think about it. It was inhumane.
If I ever have to have surgery again, I'd have the doctor sign a contract that he will increase my meds post-op.
Did your doctor have you sign a pain contract? You may want to review it and see if it covers your needs too.
I hope you are doing better.
