... 30mg per day, after sugery given oxyIR 30mg 4 per day, didn't touch the pain, left hospital on day 2 (AMA) now using regular dose and pain is tolerable, why did I have to go through this? Any recourse
Postoperative Pain - just had fusion sugery of L4/L5 in back, admitted using up to 8 oxycodone hcl?
Added 28 Nov 2009:
Have not had a call back from my surgeon as of yet, surgery was in AM of 11/24, am in good health other than back, no problems coming out of 5 hour operation, except extreme pain
I had C-1 to C-2 fusssion and while I was in the hospital they had me on a ketamine/morphine drip, actully it was the push button kind of drip & I was just waiting till I could push the button to get another dose the pain was that bad. What actully helped me was the Ketamine would knock me out before the pain was gone. After I got out I was prescribed 3 60mg MS Contin & 5 4mg dilaudid & it's like your situation, the pain was controled. I would take it as a blessing that your not in pain whatever the reason cuz mine to this day( almost 3 years ago) isn't better and is worse at times even though the meds have been adjusted. I was on 100mg MS Continx2 a day & 4 4mg dilaudid a day,but now I'm on 8x 8mg a day and some days it still doesn't help, but I'm trying to keep like that as long as I can because if I get it to high and it stops controlling my pain I'm in real trouble.
I don't know why it is that way but as I said feel lucky, who knows it might have just been that little bit of time that caused it to feel better. Good luck and I hope your bone fussion takes because mine didn't and I went from one screw in my neck to four, and its 50/50 that this one does.
I would so love to answer your question... but I think only time will be able to give you the truth you are seeking. Please continue to try contacting your doctor and let them know how you continue to suffer and see if the can order something in addition to help, maybe some muscle relxr, benzo to help to rest or something. I have had 2 dear friends, 1 male (early 30ies) 1 female (late 40ies) both went thru unbearable suffering after surgery only to find either no or minimal pain relief. I pray you do not fall into this category.
As hard as it may seem, pls follow all the directions & get moving as soon as possible..this will help release the feel goods in your brain start working again, it is very hard to believe that when you are hurting so but it is true, a lot of surgeons seem to completely forget you after surgery until the next visit and then act as if you should be healed & pain free and if you are not, it is your fault, again, I hope this is not the case for you dear. PAIN in it self dose not seem to be an important part of the healing process to many in the medical field and that is in part due to the ever increasing addiction problems to pain medications, so I am so sorry you are suffering. Have a family member call & call again if you continue to suffer & do not get a response. I will pray for comfort & healing for you. God Bless Momma Nanc
I was wondering if you discussed meds with your Neuro Dr during pre op? I had had an ACDF C5-7 and had to have an emergency surgery because we were afraid of permanent nerve damage. I didn't get to discuss what meds they would be given and I was given 5 mg Norcos. So did your dr and you have that talk before surgery?
