Hi Theresa I understand how frustrated and scared you are. Time is not our friend but unfortunately that's what it takes. It takes time with ALL meds except Xanax and Valium. Have you tried Xanax today? Why haven't you called your doctor about Valium? I know you told me Xanax doesn't work, so why not take it again and try? You also have to give the add-ons time to work 4-6 weeks. Go take a walk. I will continue to pray for you. Judy
Im currently taking Paxil 30mg daily. I also take Buspar 10mg at night.
I started with Paxil 20mg daily for about a year. It was working fairly well but panic attacks returned although fairly mild. Doc and I decided an increase to 30. It works well I must say!
Initially took the 20mg about 1week to see decrease in panic attack frequency and intensity. After another couple weeks even more so...
When the attacks returned they were milder than before but still annoying.
Hence the increase. My current dose efficacy only took a few days to notice.
Except for one bad atrack, I have had only 2 mild ones since Feb!!!
I feel really well now. Hoping to be able ti go find a job!!!
Give it some time... Hopefully you will have goid results. I try to avoid xanax, not a fan. Highly addictive.
Hello theresaday. The symptoms and medications you are currently taking and the effectiveness of the later will vary according to diagnosis which is the key and is paramount to the follow up therapy/treatment. If you feel that you are not having any results from your current medication(s) given a second or possibly third opinion in relation to according diagnosis) would certainly not be out of the question and suggested. Regards pledge
The psychiatrist that has u on these meds, how long have u been seeing him? First off I have ptsd... you say yours was cause by medcial reasons..I dont understand can u explain that? Second one of my conditions is ptsd as I stated and nothing takes mine away I me nothing..the bad dreams I have the flash backs of what happened to me..it was to seperate insidents that caused my ptsd meaning to dramatic and I mean dramatic things happened to be as a child not at the same time either..and then I went onto bipolar, ptsd, panic/agoraphobia and several chronic health issues that r none reverseable..with that being said I take my antidepressent and my klonopin 1mg 4 x's daily..I hate taking it but my panic is so so bad that if I didn't I land in a mental hospital every single time..you have to talk to your doc there r millions of meds for anxiety... and I can't believe that xanax don't work for u..that stuff had me so calm but I needed something round the clock and that's why doc put me on klonopin... benzo's work right away like xanax takes a very short x to kick in with that being said it also wares off quick..like four to five hrs I think... maybe u need to be on 1 mg instead of .50... and as far as the paxil... like I said 11 days is just not enough time... it takes not just for u for anyone mostly 4 -6 weeks for u to reach therepeutic level... your doc even told u this... why don't u belive him and but your mind to rest for awhile and just try to do something anything..cook a dinner whatever to focus on something other then how long the med is going to take to work..we r telling u that... and when that time ends and if by chance u still feel like this then your doctor is the only one who can change your meds... none of us not trying to be smart but really none of us no which med will work for any of us if we did we would be the doctor..the doctor don't even no... it's all trial and error as I said countless x's... u have to keep trying different meds combo's until he get's the right one for u... quite frankly maybe u might want to consider going in patient for a while... I no it stinks been there done that millions of x's cop's escorting me because of me trying things..but at least if your in the hospital they can monitor u and talk to u and u can tell them all u r telling us and they r more equipped to spend more x with u and hopefully get u on track..u can only tell u what helped us and that's not going to do u any good u r just wasteing your time and getting more upset for what works for me doesn't mean it's going to work for u..eveyone reacts to meds differently and that's why one person is on one med and another person is on another..do u unerstand..you might even want to consider a second and 3rd opinion..meaning your doc is on vaca..so why not try and go see another and get there input??? I will pray for you... that is all I can do I wish I had the answers for u, but none of us here do..we can only tell u what helped us... wishing u find some type of inner peace and calmness..
I agree with the others about some Meds taking time to build up in your system. I do see that the category of the drugs that you are taking like paxil are the typical anti depressants. Have you ever tried the category of drugs like seroquel and latuda etc?
You may want to consider going to DBT counseling and NAMI support meetings.
There are no magic bullets
When I was overwhelmed I went to flylady's website and learned how to be gentle on myself yet learned how to cope and clean.
I have to go for a walk in bare feet in the grass and get near water. Everyday I have to get up take a shower and then follow the instructions and to do list every day.
Sometimes I think some drugs slow down healing because one does not have the skills to cope with anxiety and that is why DBT and NAMI meetings work. Now is the time for you to do something different. Maybe A new doctor a hospitalization or research and asking for drug in new category.( whatever works) You need to choose after you have tried what is out there . No one on any website can hand you miracle pills or a magic ball... This stuff takes work and you are responsible for that.
It is SO hard when you have the anxiety and depression but you have to unless you want to stay stuck here
If you need help finding meetings that are available or how to find DBT counselor , you can pm me. If you need community support in US call 211
Do something different today so you can start feeling better
Take care and be well
I know how desperate you feel. I understand how you feel, depression and panic attacks are truly one of the most difficult things to endure. I GET IT, I've walked a few miles in your shoes.
I've suggested that you switch doctors. Have you done that?
I've also suggested that you ask to try ONE of the old tricyclics, such as Pamelor or Tofranil.
Have you done that?
Xanax works splendidly, maybe you do need an increase, I don't know, I'm NO doctor. But you can ask if your doc will increase the dose. It's worth a try.
Have you done that?
Talk therapy can work greatly, in conjunction with medication.
Have you done that?
Have you taken walks? Have you tried to be in the sun, which can help greatly by getting vitamin D into your system very quickly. Have you done that?
Considering how miserable you feel, and I truly feel for you, have you tried an inpatient program as had been suggested repeatedly.
Have you done that?
Have you asked your doctor to get you into a hospital program? It's important!!
Have you done that?
What are you doing, Theresa, to help yourself? I know how very hard it is to deal with this, I've been there. I KNOW how bad you feel! Keep plugging away, try different meds, go to counseling (even tho it doesn't seem to help) try a different doctor, TRY ANYTHING for now. Just don't give up!
GIVING UP is not an option, not for any of us!
