I had a total hip replacement on 20th july. All seemed to go well and I went home. Two days later foot and leg swelled up and I was readmitted to hospital. On 24/7 iv antibiotics!!Home after 4 days with antibiotics to take for 6 weeks. Feeling awful!!Still in pain but trying to deal with it. Medication is knocking lumps out me and am depressed and fedup. Am I expecting too much or is this what happens after major surgery. Any advice would be appreciated.
I had a hip replacement last September. It was dreadful. I had to take a 4 week course of antibiotics as well as the blood thinners they gave me made my ulcers bleed resulting in another surgery. I was given extra pain relief for ~9 months and am 2 weeks away from finishing detoxing from fentanyl.
In my case: the joint will not be the same ever again. Forget about jogging across the road. Finally the leg with the new hip is a bit longer than the other, hurts with weight bearing exercise which is now giving me really severe back pain.
Despite all that, I'm happier with a leg that works.
