I have been seizure free since I was taken off of Tegrotol in grade nine. This means I haven't taken seizures for four or so years, but now I'm 20 and my mother told me today that it may be risky for me to get pregnant since it might cause me to start taking seizures again. And on top of this, she also has a history of problems with pregnancy so I might have those problems on top of the seizures. I just want a second opinion, I've never wanted to get pregnant and I still don't. I don't think taking a risk to get pregnant is worth it, either, if it could endanger myself and the child as well.
The womens body when pregnant is really amazing... u may be at a higher risk for seizures if since it runs in ur family but ur OB will be keeking a close eye on you and the baby... it is actually very dificult to have a miscarriage caused by trauma. women are kinda build to take the damage pretty well... im not saying u cant or wont have problems, but your chances are slim... go and
get your second opinion and discuss it with your significant other... then make your decision :)
have a good night,
Hi i agree with angel. If you are particularly concerned speak to your doctor about it, ask if you can get a referral to talk about this with a midwife, nurse or neurologist or other specialist in this field. When i was younger i also was concerned about pregnancy in later life, and although i wasn't planning on having children at any time soon then, i still sought advice and it definitely put my mind at rest. If you are at high risk of seizures there are precautions that be be put in place if you do get pregnant.
