I agree with KM, and Mary, please don't give your baby medication. Start with warm prune juice, it works wonders. I used it when I was pregnant. Then start slowly to incorporate more fiber in the baby's diet, i.e. fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and beans. Babies/toddlers esp. shouldn't have constipation like that. You control the diet. Carrot sticks are very healthy, and you can cut them small. Have the baby dip them into some yogurt, or my favorite, hummus, which is another fiber!! There are tons of ideas all over the web on how to get fiber into your child. Putting veggies in meatloaf is one suggestion I have heard. Using applesauce instead of oil in any cake, or anything that needs oil for moisture, cornbread, etc.

Be sure that your baby is drinking water and juices. Adequate fluid intake is important for good bowel movements. If a person is not adequately hydrated they can have hard dry stools. Giving babies water at this age can teach them to appreciate drinking plain water and not conditioned to flavored beverages. Give him/her a sippie cup of water several times a day. Juices can help keep their stools soft-prune is wonderful but apple and white grape will work too. With apple and white grape, you can mix the juice 50/50 with water.
Please do not give this to your baby without specific instructions and monitoring from your pediatrition (which i dont anticipate your pediatrition would use at all). It is an osmotic laxitive meaning it can pull water from her body and dehydrate her and can potentially cause electrolyte disturbances. Its dangerous in a kiddo that young. Would suggest a glycerin suppository if she is super constipated. Otherwise the prior suggestions of adding prune juice and fiber to her diet are excellent.
