I have had 10 surgeries in the past 30 months, I still have so much pain, I can't sleep and now I am having a hard time eating. When I eat & when I have servere pain I vomit. My primary was told he can no longer prescribe pain medicine and has to send me to a pain doctor, so i have to wait 3wks. to see the dr. that the DEA is dictating me to see! I did not know the government now controls your medicines, so i need to know who in the government I need to call so they can care for me for 3wks? I live in Mass.
The DEA is now practicing medicine. They think they can say when and what you can have and how much. All you can do is contact your congressman, write to the president and be sure the public knows what is happening to us when we try to treat pain. You can call the DEA, but all you get is platitudes. I asked them what made them think they were qualified to decide how pain is treated, they were practicing medicine without a license, and they told me they weren't as long as the doc follows the rules they are ok. 6 months later my pain dr, who followed all the rules, lost his license for 2 yrs and no can no longer practice pain management.
Yeah my doctor got suspended for 3 months and I was lucky to get taken on by his partner but it's getting really hard just to see him. I may be waiting 3 hours or they cancel my appointment. I wasn't told by the DEA who I could see I just found someone that would work with me. I know it took my dad at least 5 PM docs before he found someone.
Everyone in every state who has pain needs to be writing and calling the State Reps and Congressmen/women and let them know how these tough policies are affecting people who suffer legit pain. They think if they take medications away from everyone they can solve the drug problems in the country. They couldnt win the fight against illegal drugs so now they are justifying their jobs by going after legit doctors. MUCH easier targets!! Plus all the government officials have all the parents of "little darlings" who died abusing Oxycontin and other prescription drugs. It is the drugs that are the problem, not the kids! They cant face the fact their kids were addicts so they want to blame the drug.
I swear, I saw a woman on TV who son had died from ODing on Oxycontin who said she thought chronic pain patients should just suffer so these drugs wouldnt fall into the hands of children!! This is the mindset of these fanatics! It is easier to blame the drug than the fact that maybe you werent keeping a close enough eye on your kid. I have also seen people whose mother (or other family member) is dying from cancer and they are afraid to start a morphine drip "because mom might become addicted" She is dying for Christmas sake!! 'Just Say No' in full effect! It is just crazy, the villifying of pain medications in this country! And by Drs even! (PROP) Most PCP's wont risk their livelihood even if they want to help people. If the DEA decides they are writing too many opioid scripts, they go in and seize all their assets-retirement accounts, homes and everything! I cant really blame them but it would be nice if more of them stood up to the "powers that be" to tell them this is not right! It is stupid to think taking away meds from everyone is going to solve a problem! It just means people who follow the rules get screwed! Recreational users still have their supply. It is the legit pain patient who suffers! They are just going to push everyone to the streets for their medications! Thanks for letting me rant but this just drives me crazy and most of my family and friends think I am crazy when I say this because they are not pain patients. They just think it is the ravings of an addict because they dont understand (or believe it) either! My last pain doc had a DEA lawyer come in and give an "inservice" and scared the bejesus out of all of them. Most of the medical assistants left and a good many of the docs/PA's did too. The ones that were left started weaning everyone off their medications. Didnt matter who they were or what diagnosis, everyone was being weaned. They lost patients left and right. That place used to be so crowded you couldnt hardly find a parking spot. Now they barely have anyone there and it is a shame because they were a good pain office! They had pain docs, chiropractors, and physical therapy all under one roof. It is just a shame. I found a new doc and he is great. Now I'm just scared that something will happen to him!
