I have been on patches for 3 years due to a back condition but I suffer from horrid side effects, can anyone recommend anything else.
shazz40,how long have you had these side effects and if you don't mind my asking what are all the side effects? I think you really need to see your doc and let him deal with this. He knows you and your history and he would be the best to deal with this. I would see him, ASAP. Sorry I don't have the answer you want, I just you to be safe.
There are many different opiate type pain meds that can help with your back pain, & also muscle relaxers, & if feasible drugs for nerve pain. Not everyone is tolerant of each medicine. Might I ask what is the cause of your back pain? Is it possible for a surgery to fix? Being on long term pain meds is not a picnic at all. I was given fentanyl patches in the hospital, & actually sent home with them. They made me so ill I was vomiting. Now whether that was an allergy or just a drug intolerance is hard to say. I feel it would be best for you to have your doctor refer you to pain management if at all possible for a full evaluation of your back pain problem. Please excuse if you have already been down this route. You did not expalin much in your question. This is the best info I can give you for your problem at this time. Best wishes to you...
Excuse me, but did you type that correctly? Are you on 225 mcg of the fentanyl patch? If so, that is quite a large dose. I've only seen one other person with a dose higher than that (300 mcg). If that is correct, I'm not sure there would be any other options save for Methadone. There are conversions to other opiods, but you usually only see Fentanyl and Methadone in the really high dosages. If that was a typo and you are on 25 mcgs then pretty much any other opiate medication can be switched to. Please let us know your dosage and what your side effects are so we can help you better.
