I've been suffering with anxiety & depression for several years, anxiety being life altering. I have recently gone from Celexa to Lexapro, still no improvement. The Celexa, I believe made me more depressed. Complete lack of motivation. However, the anxiety has really crippled my life. I'm afraid to get out there... in the world. Anyone else feeling like this? Please, respond... advice... anything? I'm desperate.
Please... I've had severe anxiety for so long?

I wanted to add that last night's sleep, if you can call it that, was so bizarre and frightening. Beside the weird dreams, one after another, I was having suicidal thoughts. Wow, that scared the day-lights out of me. Of course I wouldn't. And at the time, I was pretty much half asleep. I can't stand this anymore. I haven't taken Lexapro for a couple days because I'm afraid to. I really don't know what to do. This is awful! I have 2 Young girls and I'm a single mom, have no family, I'm flipping out at this point. My apologies if I sound ridiculous. But this is my world. Help. Help. Help!
Hello laurara, Perhaps you should ask your doctor about Pamelor or Tofranil, both of these anti-depressants are considered to be excellent for anyone that has panic disorder. They are "older" tricyclic A/D's.
Also, it sounds as if you need an anti-anxiety medication. Ask your doc about that, as well.
Wishing you the best,
Sorry it took a while to respond to you, but I researched some options for you. So you have taken Lexapro and Celexa and neither have helped. They are both in the same class of antidepressants called SSRI's, so tell your doctor that SSRI's aren't working. You also took Welbutrin, which is in a class all its own, so don't worry about that one. For your depression I would ask your Dr. about SNRI's (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors). The difference is norepinephrine which is, in short, part of your "fight or flight" response. The articles I read mainly dealt with treatment of bi-polar depression, but in some cases certain types of anxiety and depression were treated with these. The main brand name I saw was Serzone and it got good reviews. For your anxiety have you ever tried CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy)? This is a mental strategy that can be effective. If you would like I could help you with it, I am a counselor and use it for phobias and anxiety. Lastly, you might want to make sure you have generalized anxiety disorder and not something else like agoraphobia among other things. Let me know if you have anymore questions or you would like my help. Best of luck to you and sorry for writing a novel.
Yes, I feel like this now. My antidepressent stopped working too... the wellbutrin. I have been on celexa and lexepro as well... both are just anti depressents they wont help anxiety.in the same class like the other poster said. I don't undertand myself why they stop after a sudden either. My anxiety is not good right now either and afraid to go out in the world too. I take klonopin for that. Are you taking anything for anxiety? I've been on zoloft (setraline)which made me gain 20 lbs. That helps anxiety as well as depression. I also have so much lack of motivation as well. I feel after a while on antidepressent they make me worse or stop working, I don't know what to do either.
Ive been on all sorts was on clonazepam for ages whilst in hopspital but weaned off my anxiety got worse was on amitriptyline (weaned off) at mo Im back on clonazepam short term and mirtazapine at night which does nowt for my mood wondering whether to go back on cipralex which I was on for years but stopped suddenly which brought all this on in the first place I am desperate also tried buspirone but didnt help much.
Don't we just love having to deal with Anxiety. I have learned if you look up side effects on depression medications perscriptions.
Lexapro • unusual excitement
Celexa • excitement
These's are listed as posible side effects
This dose no mean there no good, it means they can have the side effect of Anxiety, and if you add Anxiety to Anxiety you can guess what can happen. You are no crazy. You have a problem and it can be treated, but not always by just a pill. Ask to be set up with a Psychologist. They are trained to help you with Anxiety.
Bless you and good luck
This can be treated. See your Dr again. I have had reactions myself with other tablets. But Laura, when did this start? Where did it begin. Try and see where the fear is coming from. Does that make sense, because sometimes something can spark it off and we need to look at this and work out how to get over it. Lots of love and take care Carol
You are not alone in that! Anxiety disorders are often very crippling, they have done the same to me! I've had such a hard time finding medication that works, I have PTSD, bi-polar1 disorder and severe panic attacks in relation to my agoraphobia. I've tried paxil, zoloft, buspar, effexor, clonapin, valuim, antrideppressants, etc. I was diagnosed with mental health disorders at 8 yrs old so I've had the unique opportunity to sample all the pharmacy seeking relief. The only thing that ever stopped the panic was the valuim, but I have to take way to high a dose (50mg a time) to be safe and effective and that only helped when I had the attack. I never did find anything to prevent them, some meds that I was given to treat the attacks actually made me have them, paxil, rispiradol, I even treid smoking pot and that made me feel like I was going to die! LOL
I was given some lyrica the other day to calm me down and that actually really helped. I googled it and found out that it is used for anxiety so I'm going to ask my doctor about it. I just wanted to tell you that because I really feel for you and the lady with the two little girls. I have a one and two year old girls, it's so frustrating to feel trapped and helpless but have these precious children that depend on you to be there for them. Hang in there, keep trying you'll eventually find something!
I believe both anxiety and depression worsen with lack of sleep, which it sounds like you are definitely not getting enough of! I have two girls as well, 6 and 4, however I have a good support system too. But I notice that once I miss a couple hours of sleep my anxiety and lack of motivation are off the map. Perhaps your Dr. should look into sleep aids, I originally took Trazadone (which I think is an antidepressant) but it made me sleep very sound, and really helped with all of my other issues.
I truly believe that the body and brain require a different amount of sleep for each person (similar to calorie intake requirements). I have to have 9-10 hrs. of sleep per day, but I have always needed extra sleep even when I was younger. And sleeping/waking up/then going back to sleep again does not count as sleep, this interruption does not allow the brain to get into a deep sleep.
I would also recommend counseling, I was deeply against it at first, but after going I feel they really have good suggestions, and they can look at your situation from an outside view and really put the pieces together. (Plus they spend alot more time talking/getting to know you than a Dr. does).
Good luck, you will find the answer and be able to really enjoy your kiddos!
