my husband had a stent put in 2005, his doctor is now questioning why he is still on Plavix. Wondering if this a medicine he should stop?
After double by pass surgery, i needed 7 individual additional stents. Have been on Plavix since the 1st in 2003. My cardiologist has not mentioned stopping it and he is the original prescriber. I, too, would be curious if it is still necessary to keep taking it. Another question just hit me. How long are these stents meant to stay in. I know we need them at all times once you have them, but, is it reasonable to think they hold up forever? While in Cardiac ICU after surgery, heard a doc talking to a young man, mid 20's, saying what ever it was he had done on his heart would have to be repeated every 5 yrs. We are both past that time frame, and don't think he had heart attack anyway. May have been an infection. Anyway, we are both clearly past that time line. Sorry to answer with a question, maybe someone can help us both... Best wishes...
I have one stent and it is a DES and it is in my left main coronary artery just outside of my aorta, it is the second smallest stent made. Because of my condition following a heart attack I will never come off of plavix. I just had it refilled today and my cardiologist office just put in a new script because they do it yearly according to need. The only place that you can find out this information is from your cardiologist. With heart patients unlike other disorders no two people are alike and each most be treated according to their condition.
