... safe. However I weigh about 170 lbs. I took the pill about 3 weeks ago and experienced no side effects other than slight cramping. I am due for my period in the next week or so. If the plan b pill did not take affect can it still alter my cycle? I am experiencing cramping and breast tenderness these last few days. Am I pregnant? I just really want to know
Whether PlanB works or not, you still took a huge dose of hormone, which will cause a hormonal imbalance, which in turn can give hormonal side effects/symptoms.
It varies with every woman & also from occasion to occasion, in terms of what symptoms you get. It seems to depend where you are in your cycle, as to what symptoms you get. I've taken it once & got very few symptoms, yet on another occasion the symptoms were really severe.
It's best to sort out some regular contraception, as it's more reliable than emergency contraception, but if you have to rely on emergency measures in future, rather than Plan B you can ask for another pill, called EllaOne, which is suitable for women over a BMI of 26.
There is also the option of an IUD/Coil, that can be fitted by a doctor within 5 days of unprotected sex, to act as emergency contraception. It can also remain in place as longer term contraception.
It is common not to get your period on time after using Plan B, although some women still do. Again, it just varies, depending on the above factors. If you don't get it on time, you can do a test to put your mind at rest.
