I have taken Plan B pill after 22 hours with food does it really work. How do I make sure that it is really working out?
Plan B is not as reliable as regular birth control. It's simply worth a try if you've had an accident (unprotected sex), rather than leaving it to chance alone.
If you are fertile when you had unprotected sex, then Plan B is unlikely to work for you. You'd need one of the other 2 forms of emergency contraception; the pill, Ulipristal Acetate, or to have an IUD fitted by a doctor. Either of those things can be done up to 120 hours after the unprotected sex, but are more likely to work, the sooner you use them.
Plan B works by delaying your ovulation until the sperm has left your body, which can take days. If you are already fertile, then it cannot do that.
As a guide, most women are fertile around days 10 to 18 of their cycle, although it can vary. Day 1 of your menstrual cycle is the 1st day of your period.
There is no way to know if Plan B has worked for you. You should do a pregnancy test once you miss your next period, which is likely, as Plan B can delay it.
