I’ve been taking Microgestin Fe 1/20 for about six months. Should I take all 7 sugar pills even though my period lasts about 3 days or should I start my new pack immediately after my period ends. I’ve read on sites that you’re still protected during that sugar pill week, but don’t understand how if you’re not taking active pills anymore. What i’ve been doing is starting my new pack immediately after i finish my other pack with the 28 pills.
You are protected for those 7 days as you are first shedding your uterine lining and it then takes some time before it is is ready for implantation. Ovulation usually occurs between days 12 and 17 of your cycle (day one being the first day of your period). Take the sugar pills for 7 days as you are dictating to your body what the cycle will be, not the other way round.
There is no harm in the way you are doing things now if that makes you feel more secure.
