I have a family member that has been taking Lunesta to induce sleep after a recent heart surgery. As the primary caregiver I feel my family member is becoming dependent upon the sleep and not necessarily as a sleep aid.
First, no doc can prescribe a placebo without telling the patient he is doing it. That negates the purpose of the placebo. Secondly, dependence is a physical thing, and you do need to decrease the med slowly. If she is taking it for other then sleep, that is abuse. This needs to be reported to the doc.
