I'm on fiorinol and fioricet for migraines. I take them cuz I can't do the triptans and they work for me. When I first take one I get a huge rush, get talkative, feel more open, friendly, happy. I have NEVER taken one for anything other than an actual migraine, but I find myself fighting that temptation everyday. This sounds nuts, but I literally pray to Jesus to give me a migraine so I can take a pill. The only other substance I've been hooked on is smoking, but I've been quit around 8 yrs. I fight that temptation everyday too. Side note - I'm bipolar with anxiety disorders
I personally think, and I am bipolar also, that you like the way the pain pills make you feel because they might also help with the mood swings that come with the bipolar episodes. To me, a trained listener and healthcare provider, you seem to feel more manic, happy and the whole world is a wonderful place when taking fiorinal or fioricet. The only ingredients in both foirinal and fioricet are aspirin, butalbital and caffiene in fiorinal and the same irst two meds plus tylenol not aspirin in fioricet. They are mostly used for tension headaches which I might add, are difficicult to distinguish from a true migraine most of the time, unless you have had a complete work up done by a neurologist. Most people just go to their family doc and tell doc whats going on and the doc prescribes the medication for your problem.
If you lke the way the pills mke you feel, try drinking a cup of coffee when you headache starts or just have on in the morning. I've been drinking coffee since I was in high school, and when I got a migraine I ended up in he hospital ER. It's easier to get a little high from the caffeine than go to the hospital Sunflower... try some, might start your day of just great and you will only want the pills whe you need them.
I Can Smell the Coffee Brewing Right Now Hippie,
Do you take the kind with codeine or just the plain fiorinal/fioricet? Fiorinal #3 has codeine in it which can be addictive and cause cravings. Cravings are a sign of addictive behavior. It sounds like you might have an addictive personality and therefore will need to be very careful. If you are taking Fiorinal #3, I would suggest that you stick to the plain Fiorinal or Fioricet but even those contain a mild barbiturate and caffiene, both which can be habit forming. Have you tried a beta blocker for daily migraine prevention? Many people find it very effective. I used to get frequent migraines but after starting a beta blocker for my blood pressure, a happy side effect is less migraines!
