I have been taking Effexor XR for about 20 years. It has really worked well for my depression and anxiety up until about two months ago. I seem to be struggling with more down moods and having panic attacks. Had my worst one yesterday and had to leave work to go pull myself together.
Can a person get too accustom to Effexor XR and it stops working?

I take 150 mg every evening. Do I need to add another drug or change to a different drug? So frustrating.
Hi, Lady! Yes, it happens after years of use and is called "poop out". Don't ask me why it happens, but it does to almost everyone eventually.
You could ask your doctor about increasing your dosage (up to 225mg max) or adding another medication like Abilify. The other option, of course, is trying a different medication altogether.
Best regards and I hope you feel better soon! Twenty years might set a record for effectiveness!
