... nerve block and spine tap and several drugs. Can anyone help me?
Its called post herpetic neuralgia. Neurontin or Lyrica is certainly worth a try. It helps in many cases. Lidoderm patches also help. They are just like novacaine, and will numb the area. They have no pain medicine in them. An extended release pain medication may be necessary.
dwlee... Postherpetic Neuralgia is damaged nerves from having shingles. The pain can be worse than the shingles were and it can be permanent. I have had PHN for 4 yeaes and have tried all the drugs and have had 5 nerve blocks, 3 illiongural and 2 select root nerve blocks, no help. I am trying a fairly new time released form of Gabapentin called Horizant this week, talk to your doctor about it, maybe it is right for you. I hope you find relief.
I really feel for you. I had shingles over a year ago which left me with horrendous damaged nerve pain. The only medication that works for me is gabapentin and solpediene. The pain was overwhelming much worse than a hip replacement. So the relief is allowing me to be normal. Good luck.
