I had disk replacement surgery last October, but I am still in pain. I am going for pain management and the doctor perscribed the patches for me, but not sure about the side effects that come with the patches.
When we go to a specialist, we do so with the idea he will know what he's doing. All medications have side effects. The list of side effects does not mean you will have all of them or even any of them. They have to report it if 1 person thought it might come from it. There is nothing to stop you from taking it off if the side effects get to be too much.
I concur with kaismama's answer. Just give the patch a try, you may be very pleased with the pain killing power of the patch.
Ever notice on every rx you've ever had that the print-out from the pharmacy listing all the side effects ALWAYS contains the following; "may cause constipation or diarrhea"? Every rx I've ever been prescribed states that sentence in the side effects list! Just becomes one single human had one of those side effects. You may have none of them just as kiasmama has said.
I wish you all the best in your endeavor for pain relief,
Just for your information, I am on a fairly high dose of the Butran patches and haven't noticed any side effects. And I have a very high list of medications which I am allergic to. That does not mean that you won't have any side effects, but I can tell you that the Butrans patches have saved me from having to go the ER very frequently. Now only once in 2.5 years since using it. And taking medications can frequently be a trade off between the medical problem that it's helping and the side effects.
I'm wondering what dose is the doctor starting you on? I'm glad that you will give it a try.
I decided to give this Butrans patch # 10 one more try before I see the PM doc this week. I put it on last night 6 pm ish. I continued with my pain meds as previously it took a good 24 hours to get pain relief. My sleep was very poor and have had that problem before. Now today I feel like I have been beat up, I hurt all over. So I am still taking my pain meds as needed. Advise and comments welcome.
