Feeling like that, sometimes it's when I'm trying to go to sleep. Other times I don't want to see anybody or answer the phone. This started when I came home from the hospital. I was hospitalized because of having a stroke on July 9 2012. I am recovering, slowly. Why would I get the feeling of being boxed in or trapped and can't breathe. Is it associated with depression?
This sounds like anxiety but post stroke I really want you to tell your Dr about this. Waking up feeling smothered can be if you wake up at a different time in the sleep cycle. Some people wake up and feel paralyzed.
Sleep cycles can be scary ...
I want to encourage you to keep reaching and going out
When I am alone in my house it's like like walking through a bad neighborhood waiting to be mugged.I can imagine the worst and fear runs crazy. People need contact with others which is why maximum state prisons are built around isolation. Keep talking with others and keep getting better... You can do this
It does sound like anxiety. I suffer from both anxiety and depression. I understand how frustrating this might be. Like D told, you should consult your doctor about this because of your stroke. Better to cover all your bases. Take care. Im sure you can pull thru this. You are strong!
Mike, I'm concerned that you may not be on the site anymore since you are now listed as anonymous. You definitely need to talk to your doctor about your feelings. Strokes can cause changes in behavior and reactions. A simple addition of a medication could help you. Also a great majority of stroke victims have sleep apnea. I was fully tested before my stroke, but afterwards was tested again and found out that I now had sleep apnea. That could maybe be affecting you as well. Don't know. But you should get tested anyway, because it puts you at further risk of another stroke and can impair your other organs. Sara
