I was on the Depo Provera shot for 3 years. Its been a year since my last shot and I haven't had a period or anything since my first shot. Has anyone else had this happen?

Also, how long does the depo take to completely leave your system? and Does it affect my chances of having children if I decide to have kids in the future? I'm 19 and my doctor never told me alot about the shot :/
Hey i was only on the shot for a few months and it stopped my periods. Its been 7 months since my last shot, I do have a mirena coil in and have occasional spotting, no periods yet. I had periods on Mierna prior to the shot, Ive heard of some people taking 14-16 months for their fertility to return to normal. But do not worry, it wont affect you permantly
I was on Depo for 18 years, with a couple of short breaks (which the Manufacturer recommends).
On each of those short breaks, my body reacted differently, & therefore I don't think it's possible to say for certain how anyone will react each time.
Not having a period for a year is very common. It can take up to 18 months before you get your fertility back, for some a little longer.
Being on Depo for best part of 2 decades has not effected my fertility. Once it came back I ovulated as normal.
So far, I have had MRI scans (at my own request) & there has been no damage to my bone density, although I will repeat the scan once I reach menopause.
Some women have unprotected sex once they stop using Depo, believing that they do not need contraception, because they have not yet had a period. They have not realised that although they hadn't seen any blood, their body had just had it's first ovulation, & they have ended up pregnant.
If you want to encourage your body to get back into a regular cycle asap, rather than using more hormones, you can try a natural remedy called Agnus Castus. It got my periods back into a regular cycle really quickly (& helped with my PMS). The only thing is, you can't use it if you're taking any hormonal birth control, because it could make it ineffective, & you could end up accidentally pregnant.
I use the 'A. Vogel' brand, as it's really good quality. It's a liquid that you put in a small amount of water, twice daily. You can get it at health stores or on the internet. I get mine from Amazon.
