My Implanon has been expired since July 2012 and my appointment to remove it is in January 2013, I have had a baby while on implanon 2 years ago and didnt remove it then, but since then i have not had any periods its expired for 4 months now and im not sure if i can get pregnant or why i still dont get any periods. I take a test about every month and they all come out negative.
I am surprised that your doctor didn't advise you to remove the Implanon while you were pregnant. It might take a bit longer for your hormones to regulate. Although the Implanon that you have has expired, it probably still has a bit of hormone in it (but not enough for contraception) so that little bit extra is causing you not to have a period. I
If you had a baby while having Implanon and the same implant is still there then I would say most certainly, you could get pregnant again. I'm VERY surprised they didnt remove it while you were pregnant, in fact that astounds me! It could still be kicking out some hormones which could be interfering with your cycle but it may not be enough to rely on for contraception any longer. I would be sure to use a barrier method, like condoms, if you are not ready for another baby. I would most definitely voice your concerns with your Dr when you go to have it removed. Some times in women with larger BMI's, Implanon is not as effective as it is in normal weight women-not sure if this applies to you but thought I would mention it. Contraceptive failure rates are higher in women who are heavier and use Implanon.
TLC has a show on in the AMs called I didn't know I was pregnant, and there was just a woman on it who had implanon put in and she got pregnant with it. She was heavier. I too am amazed they didn't remove it when you got pregnant. The implant could be kicking out some hormones messing up your cycle, but I wouldn't trust it for contraception either.
