. Now I'm 50 years old and perimenopausal. My anxiety has returned and driving me crazy. Any advice?
You may want to be evaluated by your gynecologist. There are numerous avenues to take to help with perimenopausal symptoms. One website that gives a good overview of this condition and offers some treatment options is:
The table of contents on the left side offers both medicine suggestions and life style changes. Click on the pages and have a read.
Treatment usually involves treating the symptoms so a medicine such as hormones or an antidepressant that is also used to treat anxiety such as Lexapro may be in order. Best to discuss with the doctor though.
Anxiety is caused by gastritis and /or stomach acid. It's an old outdated belief that is is mental or caused by stress. There are new studies (one by Columbia university) that proves anxiety is created from ulcers, not the other way around! That is why many people get panic & anxiety attacks right after they eat.
Anxiety is caused by something physical only. I'm an expert on anxiety and have delt with it & studied it obsessively for over 25 years. There are nerve ending & other things in the lining of our stomach that creates anxiety & panic when irritated &/or damaged. One can have an ulcer or gastritis and not know it. I had no pain at all but had severe gastritis.
I was perfectly normal and happy & anxiety free until I took Naproxin pain reliever (NSAID) for 1 week for my period and it burned the lining of my stomach. I immediately developed a severe panic disorder until it healed. I will suffer from anxiety again if I eat acidic food on an empty stomach or too much of it. I cut out tomatoes and coffee etc... I now drink coconut water, goats milk and that sort of thing (low acid) for 6 months until it heals. I do not like antacid pills the side effects are too harsh for me. I will take Tumms for immediate relief. I no longer have a panic disorder after my stomach healed. MSG & sodium benzoate preservatives are also big anxiety and panic causers. I have to maintain and care for my stomach for the rest of my life but I function well again and do not need any drugs.
Smoking will damage the lining of your stomach and cause anxiety too. Same with drinking too much.
If you suffer from anxiety of any kind try taking care of your stomach you have nothing to lose. You will probably get your life back. I did.
