I went to the doctors thinking I had tonsillitis, he looked at my tonsils and gave me penicillin, I took 8 a day for a week and finished the course. The pain went for a few days but now it's been a week and it's returned. Is there anything else I could take to reduce the pain?& could it be something other than tonsillitis? One tonsil has been really swollen but the other has been fine and I've not had any white dots on them.
I'm curious to know when you went to the doctor and he or she examined your tonsils did the doctor do a culture on your tonsils? Knowing the strain of bacteria can usually pin point what antibiotic to prescribe.
Obviously, your tonsils must have been red and inflamed otherwise the doctor would not have given you the penicillin.
However, with the tonsillitis coming back it is possible that maybe you needed a stronger bacterial antibiotic such as Keflex or Baclofen?
Worse case scenario could be that you need a tonsillectomy (removal of your tonsils).
I would go back to the doctor explain that your symptoms came back and see what the doctor recommends next?
Feel better soon
