My husband has been on a peg tube for 6 years. Should the tube be changed annually or can it stay as long as it continues to work correctly. My husband is starting to have constipation issues and bloating.
Constipation is almost a given with someone who is not very mobile. There are 2 schools of thought on changing pegs, some say it should be changed routinely and others say it only needs changed if there is a problem. The problems that would arise from a bad tube are blockage(of the tube itself) or leaking. Its up to his doc when it should be changed. They are silicone and hold up well, so he may not change it very often.
