She recommended Paxil, and will be doing assessment tomorrow. After reading these reviews, it seems promising. Have had anxiety and some depression(I think caused by the anxiety) for 3 years now. Tried all self helps/ read tons of books on how to cure myself, but I am giving in after getting no relief from self help. I am keeping fingers crossed that this may finally get me help, and I can actually go out to dinners again with the family, have people over for dinner and not want to avoid all the things that cause me great anxiety. Never been on any other med for anxiety/depression, so am desperately hoping this may the answer I need :)
Paxil is an excellent choice for anxiety and depression. Be aware you may have some side effects in the beginning such as headache and nausea, but these should subside in the first couple of weeks. It takes upwards of a month to reach max effectiveness so be patient. If Paxil doesn't happen to work for you, there are numerous other meds to try. So don't despair.
Hi, believe! First of all, I'm glad you're getting professional help. Self-help methods are very valuable and should be continued even if you are on medication (just don't take OTC or herbals without your doctor's approval) but sometimes the time comes to get help.
Paxil is an older antipressant of the SSRI class and has been approved for years, and is very effective, for depression and anxiety disorders.
Be aware that there may be side effects, although most people do fine, or if they have side effects they're mild and resolved over the first few weeks of treatment.
Also, one drug does not fit all. What works for me may not work for you, but if this happens, don't despair because there are a galaxy of medications you can try.
Good luck tomorrow! WCV
The side effects with the exception of the insomnia wore off after a couple of weeks. There are some other excellent anti-depressants that your Dr. can give you for the insomnia if it remains a problem. Paxil works relatively fast you will probably start to feel better after a week to 10 days. Like others have stated I'm always here if you have any questions or concerns. Best of luck to you.
