I am chronically ill with crohns disease–multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, etc. anxiety and panic have become serious problems for me. I just wanted to know what others have experienced with Paxil and anxiety and panic attacks. Any help, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. These things become very demanding at times.

Hello geraldherrin. I currently take Paroxetine/Paxil for anxiety. Have done so for some years. It works fairly well in regards to my anxiety. Panic attacks, which I used to(o) have years ago, I seldom if ever have one anymore. The down side to Paxil is it can leave me fatiqued and it certainly increases my appetite. Having said that, other wise I rate it high in helping anxiety or GAD. Regards pledge
hello geraldherrin,
sorry 2 hear of all your health issues, sorry don't no to much about crohns disease, but i am ready to look into it for my niece has it, as for anxiety and panic, i am a mental health patient, one of the things i suffer with is panic/agoraphobia, bipolar, and so on... i myself not trying to be smart but am not a doctor, but i take klonopin for my panic disorder and other meds for other conditions, the klonopin i like cause it's long acting and doesn't ware off in 4hrs like xanax or ativan, that's if you even are even seeking this type of med. there are lots of meds out there for panic and they tried all of them on me and the one that worked the best was klonopin... i took paxil before didn't do a thing for me for the panic/anxiety, but that is just me, everyone handles meds differantly..i would talk to your psychiatrist if u have one, if not u can discuss it with your pcp and hopefully they will beable to help... wishing u the best of health
I shall keep your suggestions in mind. I have very little understanding of the nervous/ panic problems except that the feelings are very unpleasant and I am always very glad when the meds kick in and the feelings go away. I know what to do when the crohns causes the problem (once on a plane at 33000 feet– I don't recommend it). Thank you.
hi geraldherrin,
anytime, i will add u to my friend list if u don't mind, and if u ever would like to talk u can send me a private ?, only if u like, my niece has crohns, she has been through hell the last couple months with chemo, not from the crohns, they found she had ovarion cancer, had to do a complete hysterectomy on her, chemo everyday, she was so so sick, but i have one thing to say she is one tough cookie, cause thank GOD she came out of all this cancer free! so i am now a firm believer in the power of prayer not that i wasn't before but i prayed for her every night and she pulled through it cancer free after all the chemo and trying to be a mom etc.. i am so proud of her, and she is in her 30's! so i learned after seeing her be so gracious about that and never once complaining that we all have the strength, we just have to put our heart and soul into it and not give up! best of health to u, will keep u in my prayers

Thank you. Oddly enough, an increase in appetite would be a beneficial side effect for a crohns patient. It sounds like something that may help me. I appreciate the information.
You are very welcome. Have a great week.
