I've been on Paxil 10mg for almost a year and it helped my overall stress.. I'm 38 male and About a week ago I had my very first anxiety/panic attack., landed me in the ER.,thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. End result was a severe anxiety attack. Next day saw my PCP and he raised my Paxil to 20mg. I've had some type of small anxiety attack everyday because I'm obsessing about having another lol. Can't get it out of my mind! Saw a therapist and he says mine are stress induced anxiety. I'm now on klonopin .5 mg and supposed to take as needed. My question is how long will this raise in Paxil take to help? This sucks! I want my life back. I will be fine if I could just get my mind off of having another attack lol.
Sometimes it can take a week or two, the klonopin should help you until you reach a therapeutic dose. I am not a fan of klonopin or benzos but know that they may be needed for short durations. Unfortunately we live in a high stress world. Some of us can only hold on so long before the stress comes out in anxiety/panic. It hits us like a ton bricks, it is like the lions/tigers and bears oh my! at every corner. Our system goes into fight or flight but we have nothing tangible to run/fight from. Our brain is trying to protect us in the only way it knows how. Learning how to manage the stressors. I have yet to find the magic answer on how to do this. There are lots of web sites with suggestions. Glad to hear you are in therapy. EMDR worked for me, but you have to find a therapist trained in it. It may take time for your brain to reroute/reboot from the trauma of the ER visit. Be patient with yourself.
