Added 24 Oct 2013:
I just got my buspar upped to 15 mg twice daily on Monday. I did take a .5 of xanax but it never works till about 2 hours later.
Try to calm yourself. Close your eyes and be very aware of your body. Breathe deeply and slowly. Don't let your mind wander, but try to imagine yourself laying in a beautiful field with flowers all around you. You can feel the warm sun on your face and arms. You can smell the flowers around you, they smell so sweet. You can hear the birds in the trees calling to their mates, chirping in their sing-song way. A little squirrel runs past you and stops to look at you. You see he is holding a large acorn. He chatters at you and runs up the tree next to you. You watch as the honey bees dance from flower to flower gathering golden pollen. At the edge of the clearing, you see a doe and her fawn cautiously peeking their heads around the safety of a tree. Mama deer softly grunts and the tiny little spotted fawn bounds out of the tree bank, hopping and running through the beautiful flowers. She is still not steady on her feet, so you smile as you watch her comically clumsy attempts to chase a beautiful blue butterfly. You hear nothing but the sounds of nature all around you. Your breathing has slowed down and you take a deep, cleansing breath, filling your lungs with the scents of the flowers, the trees and the wonderful smell of the rich soil beneath you. You continue to lay in the field, drinking in the sights, sounds and smells of nature and its serenity.
Let this scene play over and over in your head. If you let nothing break your concentration, you will be calmed. It has always worked for me. Imagery can be very powerful.
Buspar never worked for my panic attacks only helped with anxiety sometimes. I think you need to call your dr and let them know it's not helping and maybe they can put you on another med that will actually help with panic attacks. I take valium 7.5 mg twice a day and they wanted me on zoloft but I get severe headaches on zoloft so I had to stop it but I may give it another shot because I can't even leave my house without talking myself into it.
