I have just started citalopram (Cipramil here in Australia) and I am on Day 6 days 4 and 5 saw me suffering from Panic Attacks. Today I have stemmed them with Valium. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just a matter of hanging in there and seeing these side effects through? I have read this is quite common?

Have contacted my Dr today and am waiting to hear back from him. From all of my research today, it seems that this is quite common and I just have to stick it out. Thanks for your response.
Spoke to my Dr last night. He said sometimes patients can feel anxious about medications and thus anxiety/panic rises. He has recommended that I drop my dose to 10mg (from 20mg) for a few days until I see him next and then possibly increase it to 20mg again if all goes well. I was awake a lot last night but managed to get through it fairly well. However I did take Valium (10mg) last night before bed. Sigh... I am sooooo over the anxiety thing! I've been listening to guided meditations over the last couple of days to help with the panic thing and yes, it helps but... #$@^&!!! Am I over it!!!
Glad you spoke to your doctor. Hope the anxiety gets better the longer you are on the citalopram. Keep in touch,
Laurie
Day of two of being down to 10mg instead of 20. I think it has made a difference but I am really make an effort to help myself with Mindfulness Cognitive Therapy and daily Meditations. That in itself has really turned on a light in my head. Amazing how much power the brain and your thoughts have over your emotions and bodily responses!
Absolutely, we have far more control then we realize. Thanks for sharing and keep on posting,
Laurie
