I work 12 hours a day and I have swelling in my knees and severe pain in my legs
My name is Liz, and sorry but I think you answered your own question. I don't know your age, but if you have been doing this physical activity most of your life, your knees are going to develop some arthritis, and in turn, cause fluid build up and swelling. You might try some ibuprofen to help with the pain, and it is also an anti-inflammatory. When you get home maybe soaking in a tub with Epsom salt. I know that nurses also are at high risk of knee problems, just from being on their feet, walking, and sometimes running, all day. You probably should make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. They can drain some of the fluid in the office. Might even suggest an arthroscopy to look around and see how much damage has been done from your long, hard, physical days and give you some alternatives to help treat your pain. Hope this helps. Your are more than welcome to ask anything else if you need to. Hope you feel better soon!! L
