I know pain medication can aggravate some pain, but my left arm/hand now chest and ribs hurt so bad, hand/arm gets ice cold. I am in such a trap, I don't know the answer and I fear it is driving me insane. I have small lumps forming all up the back of my upper arm left one only, on my left ribs. Can pain med actually cause all of this mess? I can't hold on to my job much longer I fear, the depression is so bad and i cannot think straight hurting so bad. I cannot keep trying for help due to appointments on the job, and if I don't have a job, then I have no funds or insurance. I don't see how pain med could cause all of this, with mottled skin, lumps, etc. but does anyone have more information?
No pain medication can not cause RSD symptoms. REflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is a condition when your autonomic nervous system malfunctions. There is hope for you! You need to contact a Pain Management specialist (look for a good one, not a quack that just hands out pills!) in severe cases a spinal cord stimulator is used to mask the pain and live a productive and happy life:) please do some research for yourself and let me know if I can help.
RSD comes from a type injury. A friend slipped in the shower and hurt his hip. It began bothering him off and on-then about 5 years later it became full-blown. Mine was caused by a botched breast biopsy-in 3 months my hand was turning black. The type I have from surgery is less common. It's possible that you already had RSD from a fall, etc. and the way the meds you're taking is making it full blown. They also do nerve blocks -which worked quite well for me. Then neurontin/gapapentin also works for some people. What is your doctor saying about this? Talk to your doctor-try another class of pain killers. See if you can get an exam for RSD? The more opiods you take-the less chance you have for a remission. They gave me codiene-then morphine-I threw them at the doctor-they sent me to pain management and they said that the reason everything worked so well- was because my nerves and system weren't messed up from narcotics-and even surgeries.
Speed in caring for this at a Pain Clinic is vital. I lost control of 3 fingers, my arm was atropying, I have a type of arthuritis in my shoulder and neck from the muscles being atrophied. I lie on a weight bench and use dumbells and types of exercises to pull my shoulder back to keep functional. Good luck and get back to us.
