I had a car accident 18 years ago resulting in back surgery and fusion of T10, 11 and 12. Unfortunately, it did not correct the problem and I have been on various pain medicines since then. My current pain med doctor is prescribing the aforementioned oxycodone, but the medication is almost to the point it stops working after a couple hours. I have to see him later today for my monthly appointment Any suggestions on what medication I should inquire about ?
Oxycodone 15mg 4x daily and asked about an extended release med 2x daily (every 12 hours). Use the 4 oxycodone pills (instant release w/o acetaminophen) for breakthrough pain. A couple of good extended release options are morphine or oxymorphone. It, the oxymorphone, is no longer sold as brand name Opana. Oxycodone is also made in 20mg and 30mg instant release pills. Depending on your PM doctor and the state you live in will dictate the max dosage prescribable for non-cancerous pain. I hope this helps.
