Can you take the fluid in a 100mcg/h Fentanyl patch and just rub it on your skin for a more instant effect? Or is this to dangerous? Can anyone let me know on this. I am also in the boat of Dr. not giving me enough meds to treat my chronic pain that I have become opioid tolerant as a result. I am seeking any method to be pain free for a few hours. Thanks
That's not a good Idea. You could easily overdose by doing that. The best way to use a Fentanyl patch is to use it as prescribed. Heating the patch will increase the rate of Fentanyl that's absorbed into your blood stream. This is being researched at the moment for patients who experience breakthrough pain. It's not recommended do to the fact that it can cause you to overdose. People often chew on the substance inside the patch which causes an overdose as well. I've heard of many deaths from people misusing Fentanyl patches. I would recommend using it as directed because that's the most effective way the drug can be used (It was designed that way). I'm sorry your doctor won't help you. Try to explain to him that you have developed a tolerance to the drug and need a higher dose. I hope this helps! Good Luck.
I once took this medication and had the same issue. My doctor prescribed fentanyl lollie pops. It is the same but you suck on them to get break though pain relief they come in 200, 400, and i think up. If you are not getting the proper relief from your currnet dose he may also do what mine did. He added an other patch to add in relief. I fond the patch did not administer the medication evenly and i got more than i needed and some times not enough so I went to ms contin. I found if I took a shower with it covered it would release quicker, but please do not mess with it. That is one of the important reasons i got away from them.
