... and he wants me to find and be treated by a pain management doctor. I have been on the same protocol for 14 years and now I am facing a real issue. Does any one have any recommendations in the Boston area? My pain is due to a large open wound and 4 back surgeries that have failed I have had no problem with my current protocol and I understand doctors being hesitant but where does that leave someone like me??? Can ANYONE help please
It is getting to where the only Drs who will write for regular long term pain medications is a pain management specialist. The DEA, government and insurance companies are making it impossible for any other Drs to write prescriptions for pain medicine, especially long term. Contact your insurance company and find out the pain specialists who contract with your insurance company that are accepting new patients. You might call the providers and explain your situation to see if they can treat you. It is awful that you and your Dr are pressured into this kind of a situation but until pain patients fight back for their rights stronger than those who are pressuring for "something to be done about the prescription drug epidemic" (which is a rather small percentage compared to those with chronic pain but the media has made such a big deal about it until most people are skeptical of anyone who has pain), it will only get worse!
