I'm sorry to hear UR story but have lived it me self! PM drs see so many patients & stretch their time so thin that many seem uncaring. If U could get to Washington, MO, there is a very good, caring & respected PM dr named Dr Ghosh that would work with U. Best of luck & hang N there as best U can until U can find a dr U respect & that respects U as well!
I have struggled with back pain for years, though not as bad as yours. I used to spend my evenings after work crying from the pain and hopelessness I felt over my future. My advice to you is to not give up and accept your situation. Try going back to your family doctor and get a new referral to a different PM doctor or even better a neurologist. Don't take no for an answer and keep fighting until you can get that pain under control.
I do have a friend who is on disability and his wife gets a check every month to be his caregiver. I don't know if this is because he is a veteran or it is from Social Security but something to look into.
I am sorry you are suffering so much. You may be in some pain for the rest of your life but it can be much better managed. I was just told by neurologist it is very hard on your liver to be taking so many short acting pills like norco and Percocet and he will recommend to my PM doc that I be on a longer acting pain med and then use norcos for breakthrough pain. This may be what you need too. Also physical therapy has helped me. The first time I did it it made it worse but this last time I made some marked improvement. It took the right Group of doctors and now I am doing better.
Keep looking, researching and getting second and third opinions. Don't accept living with pain that is a 9 or 10. No one should have to live that way when there are so many options and treatments available! Good luck to you and keep us updated on how you are doing. You will definitely be in my prayers tonight.
Hi again ds! About UR headaches; I have headaches that will last 24/7 up to 2 wks. :(. My pm dr told me he didn't work with headaches so I started with a nuerologist in Washington, Dr Hass. I have 3 medications from him but the one that works immediately is Esgic, a/k/a Fiorinal. Dr Hass also does Botox injections on my face & around my head & neck, which seem to be cutting the frequency of my headaches. They R not migraines & don't respond to migraine meds.
Just thought I would bring that up since I remembered U had headaches as well as constant back pain. In the pain dept, I have chronic pain & the Tylenol in Percocet was upsetting my stomach do badly, as well as not helping so my pm dr switched me to just oxycodone. And I have injections N my neck, back, rotator cuff & both knees!
