Hips, knees and backs seem to cause as much trouble after surgery than they do in of themselves. Anytime a surgery is done, particularly in a joint, there is going to be scar tissue left behind. Even if the surgeries were mandatory for your mobility, you completely escape the scarring inside and fibrotic tissue that form.
You have a wealth of information from your previous surgeries and know how much benefit or lack there of they give. The choice is whether going without surgery is worse than the after effects of the surgery. I empathize with your situation, though not to that extent. I've had a couple of surgeries on my right knee, and at times I question whether or not they helped. IF you have any doubts, get a second opinion. Surgeons and orthopods will differ on how they think an injury or malformation should be handled. Get all the information you can and don't be afraid to ask questions.
