I am a post roux-en-y Bariatric patient. I've lost almost 90 pounds since and I'm now a normal weight. Four years ago, I got meningitis and now have a pain disorder and severe migraines that require dilaudid injections (6mg IM with 50mg promethazine IM) that my PMS prescribes for me. She also has me on methadone (30 mg daily) for chronic pain, but is changing me to a med called Exalgo 16mg daily. Can Bariatric patients take ER medications?
Bariatric patients in general should avoid extended release formulations since there is a large loss of surface area for drug absorption rendering them ineffective.
As the previous poster has suggested a patch or immediate release tablet or liquid given more frequently may be more effective.

Currently on Exalgo 32,8 and hydromorphone 4mg as needed, not working great. How does Opana compare?
